The Building Code of Australia (BCA) lay out the strict requirements on new balconies, decking, balustrades and railings.
This including handrails to balconies/verandas required where there is the possibility of falling over one metre or more, from a floor or building and decking’s where they reach four metres from the ground require a certain non-climbable railing.
You also need to ensure these railings are secured, in safe condition and built with the approved materials required.
